UAE and Germany Expand Diplomatic and Trade Engagements Through High-Level Dialogues

    September 11, 2026

BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – During a visit to Berlin, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The conversations primarily focused on strengthening bilateral relations, boosting economic collaboration, and fostering development. Participants also examined regional and global issues, emphasizing diplomacy, peace, and security at the international level. These talks coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s official visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE Germany talks expand trade and diplomatic ties
Berlin talks put trade, investment, diplomacy and security at the center of UAE-Germany ties.

In their meeting, Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul explored strategies to deepen the UAE-Germany strategic alliance in multiple sectors. Prominent among the topics was economic cooperation and developmental partnerships. They also shared perspectives on international matters and ways to resolve crises through diplomatic efforts. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the strong relations between the two nations and highlighted their history of collaboration across political and economic domains.

This Berlin encounter took place amid efforts by the UAE and Germany to expand their formal bilateral framework. During the state visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, where both leaders announced the launch of a Strategic Dialogue that will encompass security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate change, and technology. The dialogue will also cover digitalization, transportation, environmental initiatives, cultural exchanges, and education, broadening the scope of ongoing government cooperation.

Broader economic cooperation enhances the strategic partnership

Both governments endorsed the creation of a German-UAE Investment Council, which aims to foster stronger links between public institutions and private enterprises in both countries. Officials also welcomed the renewal of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. The recent visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at over 9.356 billion euros, as detailed in the joint government statement.

Discussions on economic collaboration extended into energy, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration outlined cooperation in LNG, renewable energy sources, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also mentioned plans for establishing advanced data centers with nearly one gigawatt of capacity. Both nations identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as additional fields for bilateral cooperation, along with investment and industrial development.

Focus on diplomatic efforts and regional security persists

The foreign ministers also examined regional and international developments, emphasizing efforts to promote peace, stability, and security worldwide. Discussions involved diplomatic strategies and peaceful crisis management. The German government had previously highlighted Middle East peace and stability as key topics during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, situating the talks within the broader diplomatic agenda in Berlin.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh participated in the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. The discussions linked foreign policy priorities with economic and developmental goals discussed during the state visit. These meetings built upon earlier UAE-Germany consultations in Berlin in 2026. The latest interactions added new institutional mechanisms to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, ensuring the continued centrality of economic cooperation, investment, and diplomacy in their bilateral relationship.
