The three consecutive monthly gains contributed over $4 billion to Egypt’s reserve sum. Compared to August 2025, the latest figure exceeds the previous by approximately $7.96 billion, reflecting an annual growth rate of about 16.2%.
Remittances Strengthen Foreign Currency Inflows
Remittances sent home by Egyptians abroad also hit a record high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, reaching around $47.3 billion, according to the Central Bank of Egypt. This amount is up from roughly $36.5 billion in the prior fiscal year, representing an increase of 29.6%. June alone saw remittances of approximately $4.2 billion, which is 15.6% higher than the roughly $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025.
Egypt’s latest balance of payments data covers the first nine months of fiscal year 2025/2026. During the July to March period, the overall balance registered a deficit of $1.8 billion. Meanwhile, the capital and financial account posted net inflows of $9.9 billion, whereas the current account experienced a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures offer the most recent official overview of Egypt’s external financial position before the August reserve update.
Monthly Reserve Figures Continue Their Upward Trajectory in 2026
Throughout 2026, reserve levels have reached successive record highs in nominal terms. Reserves crossed the $55 billion mark in June and exceeded $56 billion in July. August’s figure marked the first time reserves topped $57 billion. Egypt has now recorded reserve totals above $55 billion at the end of three consecutive months. The August reserve level also surpasses December 2025’s $51.4516 billion by more than 10%.
These latest figures place Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest recorded level and continue an unbroken monthly growth streak since the beginning of 2026. From January to August, each month’s reserve total was higher than the previous one. The August figure remains provisional per the central bank’s reporting standards. Nevertheless, the available data clearly demonstrate a rising trend in Egypt’s reserve stock over the first eight months of the year.
